Skin
The difference people make
Between white skin and black skin
All the colours God made.
When I first came to this country
From Trinidad years ago
People moved away from me.
Cut me
Cut you
We both bleed
The same blood.

War
The day the war was over
People were dancing in the streets.
There’s lots I cannae remember now
But the thuds of the bombs
I remember that clearly.
It was eerie
It was frightening
It was terrible.
War is a cruel cruel thing
And it isnae a new thing.
A world of peace,
I cannae imagine it.
Peace and plenty for everyone
Will it ever materialise?

Making Peace
The world goes on
But there’s too much happening
To have a settled mind.
The mothers live then pass away.
The daughters live then pass away.
The new ones get born.
We’ve all got different languages.
We’ve all got different ways.
Making peace can be the hardest thing.
Each generation should bring fresh news
Towards realising and respecting that
We are all human beings.
